“Young Eagles gives kids a view of the world they've never seen before” ~HF
The Young Eagles is a program of the US Experimental Aircraft Association designed to give children between the ages of 8 to 17 a chance to fly in a general aviation airplane free of charge. The program was launched in 1992 and had flown over 1.2 million children by the summer of 2006. The volunteer pilots who fly the children cover all the costs of providing the flights. A Young Eagle flight results in great benefits for the kids who fly and also for the pilots who fly them.
At the program's inception EAA decided to recruit a well-known person to act as Honorary Chairman and raise the profile of the program. In March, 2004 Harrison became Honorary Chairman of the Young Eagles program. He has flown over 200 kids.
The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) is an international organization of aviation enthusiasts based in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Since its inception, it has grown internationally with over 170,000 members. The EAA was founded in 1953 by veteran aviator Paul Poberezny along with other aviation enthusiasts. The organization has grown immensely over the years to include almost every aspect of aviation and aeronautics.
